New Odette CA Pathway at the University of WindsorWhether you are a non-business/non-accounting university graduate, a career-changer, or an internationally-educated student, this program is designed for you! In partnership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (Institute), the University of Windsor’s Odette School of Business (Odette) now offers to those who hold a four-year bachelor degree the opportunity to meet the Institute’s 51 credit-hour requirement [link to web page when posting] by completing a uniquely designed and attractive CA Pathway. Your Odette CA Pathway provides you with a study program tailored to your specific needs without having to earn a second degree. It can be completed within four semesters or about 16 months. If you hold a three-year university degree, it might take a little longer. The following seven steps contain important information and make it easy for you to register. Steps:1. Documentation Required by OdetteProvide Odette with an unofficial university transcript for an initial evaluation and creation of a tentative Odette CA Pathway that is designed just for you. Feel free to drop off your transcript in person or use the contact information provided in Step 1. Odette will also require the information that the Institute will provide in Step 6 below to finalize your Odette CA Pathway. 3. Apply for Admission at OdetteBegin the application process at the University of Windsor and register for admission in the Odette CA Pathway that is uniquely designed with you in mind. . Apply to the University of Windsor Important note: Admission to the University of Windsor is selective and based on your educational background. You must be granted admittance before continuing the remaining steps. 4. Register in your Courses at OdetteAfter enrolling at the University of Windsor, log into myUWindsor.ca to register for the specific business courses outlined your individualized education plan. 5. Exchange of Information Between Odette and the InstituteComplete the form authorizing Odette and the Institute to share and discuss information related to your application. Authorization Form 6. Documentation Required by the InstituteInitiate a transcript assessment with the Institute. You will need to provide the Authorization Form from Step 4, and proof of admission to the University of Windsor from Step 3. Odette CA Pathway Preliminary Evaluation Form The Institute will perform a preliminary evaluation of your unofficial degree(s) documents and determine course exemptions and courses needed to meet the Institute’s 51 credit-hour requirement. This preliminary evaluation will be shared with Odette and become part of your unique Odette CA Pathway. The fee for this preliminary evaluation is: - Ontario University Transcripts – $50 (plus applicable taxes)
- Canadian Non-Ontario University Transcripts – $100 (plus applicable taxes)
- International University Transcripts – $480 (plus applicable taxes). Most of this fee will be applied to the Institute’s CA student registration fee if registration takes place within five years of the preliminary evaluation date.
You will then be ready to complete your uniquely designed Odette CA Pathway. Make sure that you maintain an overall minimum “B –” grade point average in all of your required CA courses (the calculation of this overall GPA will also include any CA-recognized courses that were completed during your undergraduate studies at a Canadian university and were confirmed in your preliminary evaluation). 7. I’ve Completed My Odette CA Pathway! What now?Your next step is to officially register with the Institute as a CA student by completing the registration form and paying the applicable fee, assuming that you are otherwise eligible. CA Student Registration Form You must also provide the Institute with: - Official University of Windsor transcripts showing successful completion of the required courses in your Odette CA Pathway
- Official transcripts from any other recognized degree-granting institution(s), as needed, to verify the Odette CA Pathway course exemptions (i.e. official verification of the preliminary evaluation used to determine the courses included in your unique Odette CA Pathway).
Your official transcripts must also confirm that you have met the Institute’s four-year, 120 credit-hour university degree, or equivalent. Employment or an accepted offer of employment in a CA Training Office is also required for registration with the Institute. Once you have provided the necessary official documents and registered as a CA student, you will be eligible to proceed to the Institute’s Professional Program, which includes the Core Knowledge Examination (CKE), the School of Accountancy and SOA Final Examinations (SOA) , and the Uniform Evaluation (UFE). Please review the Institute’s Regulation 6-1 and web pages for additional information on the Professional Program and the Prescribed Practical Experience. If you apply to register as a CA Student and your registration is not approved, you may appeal this decision. Please review the student registration appeal rights given below. Appeal Rights A decision of the Registrar not to register or reregister an individual as a Student or to deregister a Student may be appealed by the individual or Student to the Institute’s Membership Committee. The parties to an appeal are the individual appealing and the Registrar. The appeal shall be conducted in accordance with the Institute’s Rules of Practice and Procedure. The decision of the Membership Committee is final.
