Related ItemsRecognized University CoursesCourse Credit and Grade RequirementsCourse Requirements The "51 credit-hour requirement" may be fulfilled by receiving credit at the time of registration for degree-credit courses previously completed at university or by completing additional degree-credit courses on a part-time basis following registration. Official original documentation (e.g., transcripts) is required for all courses for which credit hours are requested. The Schedule of Courses Recognized for Institute Credit outlines the degree-credit courses needed to fulfill the "51 credit-hour requirement." This schedule includes degree-credit courses normally offered in the current academic year as part of a 4-year, 120-credit-hour degree program in commerce and business administration at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Please note that, in some cases, degree-credit courses taken during earlier years may have been renumbered; please check with the Institute for prior years. Programs Offering All 51 Credit Hours Students who will be completing all courses leading to the "51 credit-hour requirement" within the same program/institution should use the Schedule of Courses Recognized for Institute Credit for their degree-granting institution. However, the Institute will assess courses completed at another institution as an out-of-program course even if completed on a letter of permission from the degree-granting institution. Programs Not Offering All 51 Credit Hours Students who will be completing courses leading to the "51 credit-hour requirement" outside of their program, with or without letters of permission, should request a preliminary assessment prior to enrolling in the out-of-program courses to ensure that they are later recognized for Institute credits. The listing of a course in the Schedule of Courses Recognized for Institute Credit does not warrant recognition where students mix courses from different institutions. Community College Courses Many colleges have articulation agreements with one or more universities in Ontario regarding their two and three year diplomas. Under these agreements, students may be granted certain course exemptions unique to their particular situation. College students are encouraged to contact the universities directly to determine how their individual situation will be assessed. Students who have taken advantage of these agreements and who are requesting Institute recognition for exempted courses should contact the Institute before university graduation. Upon receipt of relevant supporting documentation, the Institute will determine whether Institute credit should be granted for a community college course that has received advanced standing at university toward a 4-year, 120-credit-hour degree. Courses taken at Universities outside of Ontario Courses completed at universities outside Ontario will be considered on an individual basis. Please submit a copy of the university calendar description and a detailed course outline with weekly agenda describing topics covered in each course for which Institute credit is requested. Community College Applied Degrees The Institute recognizes community college applied 4-year, 120-credit-hour degrees that have been approved by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities of Ontario, as fulfilling the university degree requirement. Institute recognition of specific degree-credit courses offered through community college applied degree programs will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Introductory Financial Accounting Courses Courses in introductory financial accounting will NOT be accepted for Institute credit if their completion follows that of intermediate or advanced financial accounting courses. Grade Requirements For students registered after October 31, 2000: For students registered after October 31, 1998 and before November 1, 2000: Procedure for calculating the average grade:
Procedures for calculating the overall Grade Point Average (GPA) To determine your GPA, sum up the numeric grade for each of the 3 credit-hour courses recognized for Institute credit and divide the sum by the number of 3 credit-hour courses completed. For example, if 15 of the 17 required courses have been completed, add the numeric grade for each of the 15 courses and divide by 15. If two 1.5 credit-hour courses are taken to fulfill one 3 credit-hour course component, average the two numeric grades by dividing their sum by two; use this average number in the overall calculation. The overall GPA is NOT rounded up and reported in the following format: XX.XX%. |
