CA Firm Sponsorship Opportunities for Free CA Tax Clinics

Become a champion of Free CA Tax Clinics in your community!

You can be involved in a number of ways, including:

  • Sponsor a clinic in your community
    Your firm (whether a national firm or a sole practitioner) can take on a coordination role by providing volunteers at a clinic co-sponsored with an agency at their location.  If you are interested in this option, you may already have an existing relationship with an agency in your community, or this may be the opportunity to develop a new relationship.
  • Encourage your CA staff to volunteer at a Free CA Tax Clinic!
    We encourage CAs with personal tax return experience to volunteer - at both clinics you sponsor and other Free CA Tax Clinics in your community.  In addition, there may be opportunities to earn CPD hours; more information is provided below.
  • Issue a challenge to other CA firms See who can prepare the most returns, sponsor the most clinics, or provide the most volunteers. We’ll post your success stories on our Web site.

The Institute provides support in a number of ways, including:

  • Providing briefing notes and sample returns showing the most common situations seen at the tax clinics;
  • Providing manuals that explain the roles for operating the clinics;
  • Providing flyers/ posters and media releases to allow you to publicize the clinics in your community.
  • Holding briefing/update sessions at the Institute’s office each February for CA Students and CAs in the GTA, and/or providing materials for you to hold your own sessions.

Earn Continuing Professional Development Hours

  • The training sessions held for volunteers, which generally review tax tips for personal tax returns, qualify as verifiable CPD.
  • The time spent preparing tax returns at the clinics may qualify as unverifiable CPD, depending on the experience level of the preparer and whether there is any learning occurring.
