Counselling Member

Registration of a Counselling Member who is a member of a recognized accounting body outside of Canada

A CA Training Office may request that a member in good standing with a professional accounting body with which the Canadian CA profession has a mutual recognition agreement and who is eligible to become a member of a Provincial Institute/Ordre under that Agreement, be approved as a Counselling Member.

Only those Counselling Members from countries with full reciprocity and whose membership is in good standing with their accounting body can be approved. The name of this Counselling Member must be submitted to the Ontario Institute to confirm standing and eligibility under the Mutual Recognition Agreement.

How does the training office request permission to register a counselling member from another accounting body?

In order to register a Counseling Member from a recognized accounting body the training office must send an email to the Institute requesting permission.

Email must include:

  • contact information for the applicable CA Training Office,
  • the name and contact information for the Counselling Member for whom permission is being requested,
  • name of recognized accounting body where membership is held along with accompanying membership number.

The Institute will contact the recognized accounting body to confirm good standing status. Upon verification, the Counselling Member will be sent a letter from the Institute advising their acceptance as a Counselling Member.

Annual Review

Annually, during the Annual Practitioner Fee renewal application, a training office will be asked to review its list of Counselling Members from a recognized accounting body.
