Student Training Approval
External Audit
Overview
A CA firm that wishes to become an office approved to train students to meet the requirements to practise public accounting must be able to demonstrate that it can provide a student with a diversity of experience to fulfill their practical experience competency requirements as outlined in the CA Practical Experience Requirements “PER ”, as well as the chargeable training hours within the minimum training period as required by Regulation as per the ICAO's Member handbook. Specifically, the student must be provided with an opportunity to earn total chargeable hours ordinarily 2,500 hours with a minimum of 625 audit hours and a minimum of 1,250 assurance hours in total including 100 taxation hours.
Practice Inspection ensures that the experience is obtained in a professional environment where the office is meeting the professional standards set out in the CICA Handbook and in the ICAO Member’s handbook. The training office's adherence to professional standards is normally confirmed by the results of the office’s most recent practice inspection. If the office is a new office, any approval may be deferred until an inspection is completed.
A firm wishing to become approved to train students in external audit must complete an application form. Instructions and forms can be downloaded, completed and returned to the Institute for review and approval.
