The mock examinations give you the opportunity to write both a four-hour multi-question mock School of Accountancy (SOA) examination and a five-hour comprehensive mock examination. The multi-question examination used in the 2012 course will be one of the 2011 SOA mock examinations, and the comprehensive question will also be the mock examination from the 2011 SOA, updated for any changes in 2012.
As a participant, you will receive a copy of the examination paper via e-mail. You will write the mock examination at home and e-mail your response so that it is received at the Institute for marking by 9am on March 30, 2012 (multi) and by 9am on April 13, 2012 (comp). Your response will be marked by experienced SOA markers using the SOA evaluation guides, and returned to you electronically.
By writing this mock examination, you have the opportunity to receive feedback that can help improve your skills before the SOA examination, as follows:
- Evaluation guides detailing the markers' assessments of your performance on each indicator (performance will be ranked as Not Addressed, Nominal Competence, Reaching Competence, Competent, or Highly Competent);
- Comments written by the markers on your response will provide you with additional information on your specific strengths and weaknesses;
- Decile standings for the examination as a whole, for each question and for each competency area;
- Solutions for each question;
- A summary of overall student performance on the mock examination; and
- The markers' comments.
You will be e-mailed the mock examination material in February 2012, early enough to write the mock examination at a time most suitable for you, and to meet the deadlines of March 30, 2012 (multi) and April 13, 2012 (comp) for submission. Note that for a limited number of students, spaces will be available at the ICAO building in Toronto for students to come in and write the exam under exam-like conditions.
Your marked and annotated examination response, along with a summary of results, evaluation guides and solutions, will be returned to you via e-mail by Friday of the following week.
As there is no classroom segment for the 'Mock Examination' module upon registration, students ordering the 'Course and Materials' module and those ordering the 'Materials Only' module register for the same 'Mock Examination' module. An e-mail will be sent out in March 2012 that allows students to sign-up to write the mock examination in person at the ICAO.
