Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the hardware and software requirements for Securexam (CA)?

To install Securexam (CA), your laptop must meet these minimum hardware and software requirements:

Securexam(CA) runs on PC-based computers only.  No Apple / Power PC/ Macintosh computer will be supported, even if it runs Windows.

Hardware
     -512 Mb of Ram
     -100 Mb of free hard drive space (required to run application)
     -A free USB port.

To use Securexam (CA) in the writing centre, you need a free USB port. (You do not need a free USB port to practice with the software or to complete the mandatory “Qualification Exam”.)

Software
     -Microsoft Windows Operating System XP, Vista or Windows 7

2. I did a qualification exam but did not receive an email from Securexam to say it was okay?

Log onto the Securexam site and check your account status if it states that your qualification exam has been accepted then you are fine - however you should check that your spam filter is not blocking emails from Securexam. [close]

3. Why do I keep getting an error message when I try to access folio views through Securexam?

This could be due to a problem during installation because you did not uninstall older versions of the VPL or because when installing Securexam you changed the default location during the install.  Uninstall Securexam. Uninstall all versions of the VPL and related info bases and then reinstall Securexam - during the install do not change any default locations. [close]

4. Why when I navigated to another question is the answer tab screen blue?

This happens on some computers.  Click on the spreadsheet tab and then return to the answer tab.  The screen should be restored.  No information will be lost. [close]

5. I have Securexam loaded on my computer from last year do I still need to install the new version?

Yes.  You must have the 2010 version of Securexam in order to use a computer during the SOA exam.  If you have a previous version of Securexam you must uninstall it and install the new version.  [close]

6. How will my exam get marked?

Securexam will save a copy of your exam onto a USB key (provided by the ICAO at the exam).  These USB keys will be collected at the end of the exam and will be used to mark your exam. [close]

7. I need to install Folio views.  Where can I find it?

You do not need to install folio views it is part of the mega installer included in the Securexam download.  [close]

8. I need to un-install an older version of Securexam(CA).  How do I do this?

Using Windows XP - Click on Start, then select Control Panel. Under Control Panel double click on "Add or Remove Programs". Once the list is populated scroll down to Securexam(CA) and click on the program then select "remove" and follow the instructions. Using Vista - Click on the "windows" icon on the bottom left of your screen. Then select control panel from the right hand column. Click on "programs" and then under "Programs and Features" select "Uninstall a program" scroll down to Securexam(CA), highlight the program and then select the "uninstall" tab on the top toolbar and follow the instructions.  [close]

9.  Why  am I getting a message Securexam licence has expired?

In order to have Securexam working again, students need to update their licence using "get exams and licence" in the software. [close]

10.  Why  do I not have access to practice one or what do I do if it disappeared?

You need to "get exams and licenses" again and practice one should then become available. [close]
