Upcoming Seminar Highlights

Our Spring/Summer catalogue offers a variety of opportunities to enhance your skills, whether you are in public practice or industry.

Here are some courses being held during the months of May and June that may be of interest to you:

Tax for Controllers – May 27-28, Toronto

This 2-day seminar highlights some of the many tax and compliance issues that small or mid-sized businesses face. With no in-house tax department, controllers are often looked upon to provide advice in this area. As a result, this course will be of particular interest to new controllers, as well as any experienced controllers and financial managers who want a refresher on key compliance items. Areas of emphasis will be on payroll, employee benefits, sales taxes, capitalization of assets vs. expensing and financing issues as well as filing requirements, interest and penalties, and much more.

Due Diligence for Acquisitions – May 31, Richmond Hill

Learn to identify key issues and risks related to due diligence assignments, and know what to look for when undertaking business and financial reviews. The focus is on understanding the objective of the due diligence review as part of the overall acquisition or divestiture process. The course will be of benefit to those who are undertaking due diligence for the first time, as well as members in industry on the receiving end of a due diligence review.

Success – From Assessment to Achievement – June 1, Toronto

No matter what your current station of life, you can become better. In fact, you can become extraordinary.  This new workshop from Dr. Jim Murray is designed to provide answers and insights to anyone dissatisfied with their current job or career, as well as those who just want to be better.  This seminar will allow you to assess yourself, learn about what types of intelligence matter the most (IQ, EQ, SQ), overcome fear of failure, learn the art of self-promotion, and ultimately, to realize your vision of success.

Enough Bull – How to Retire Well Without the Stock Market, Mutual Funds or even a Financial Advisor - June 17, Ottawa

This seminar will show you a way to invest your money that runs contrary to traditional investment rules of thumb. You will be led by David Trahair, CA, through a simple strategy that will reduce your risk of personal financial disaster.

Creative Thinking and Problem Solving – June 23, Toronto

Make your meetings more effective and foster more creative and innovative thinking in your teams. This new seminar from Eileen Pease will discuss frameworks for leading focused and productive meetings and how to reduce adversarial interactions and channel the factors that impact thinking: emotion, logic, hope, creativity and skepticism.

Thinking Outside the Slide – Communicating Effectively Using PowerPoint – June 24, Toronto

This new seminar explores the principles of persuasion and how they can be applied to create persuasive visual slides for business presentations. This is not a how-to-use PowerPoint course. Rather, it extends the learning to topics like what the best visual might be for the information and how to present the visual so that it is understood. This seminar is designed to make you a more powerful presenter, whether it is for large keynote addresses, managerial and operational meetings or sales calls with potential clients.

Please visit our website to register for these or any of our other seminars. As a reminder, our 2010-2011 Personal PD Passport is also available for sale now, and can be used between now and August 2011.

Value-Driven CFO Program - Registration Deadline

There are a few more spaces available in the Value-Driven CFO program, and registration will close at the end of May. Developed and instructed by Dr. Vijay Jog, the program is scheduled for June 27 – 30, 2010 at White Oaks Conference Resort & Spa in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

The program addresses the role of the CFO in maximizing business value through strategic and tactical decisions driven by business insights. To accomplish this, the CFO needs to:

  • have a strategic “big picture” understanding of the business and the business model;
  • understand risk and reward trade-offs, and understand how the organization may fail and what it takes to succeed;
  • know how to value the business models within their own organization and those of the competition – and what value drivers to monitor;
  • measure and manage enterprise performance coupled with analytics, scorecards and incentive design to maximize value to the organization.

More information on this program is available on our website.
