Login FAQ 

The following FAQ provides information on the login process. All secured pages will prompt the user for login.  Once logged in, the user will have access to all content applicable to their membership.

Who has access?

There are a number of secured areas on the CPA Ontario Web site. Each of these areas is accessible to different groups of users, as follows:

StudentsSecured content and applications in the Student Area, including Update Profile, certain areas of the Professional Program, Professional Development Registration and various items in the CA area. 
Firms/ATOsFirm/ATO Representatives (Local Senior Officers) who have been provided a password can access relevant applications in the Firm/ATO Area.

How do I login?

You are required to enter your Member or Student # and your password to login to any secured area of the site. The Member or Student # is normally six numeric characters long. Passwords are easily created/re-set  if you are visiting the site for the first time, or wish to change your password. When re-setting your password, remember it requires a minimum of six characters, with at least one alpha and one numeric character. Passwords are case sensitive.

How do I get a password?

If you have forgotten your password, or are creating one for the first time, you can follow these steps:

  1. Click on the link on the login screen Re-set/Create My Password.
  2. Follow the instructions on the screen, enter your e-mail address, and click submit.
    NOTE: YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS MUST BE ON RECORD WITH CPA ONTARIO.
  3. If your e-mail address is not on record, please click on contact us and send us your e-mail address, along with your member number and name. Provide 24 hours for this update to occur, and proceed with re-setting your password again.
  4. If we have your e-mail address on record, you will be immediately sent a secured link via e-mail to change your password. Click on the link and submit your new password.
    NOTE: NEW PASSWORDS REQUIRE A MINIMUM OF SIX CHARACTERS, WITH ATLEAST ONE ALPHA AND ONE NUMERIC CHARACTER.
  5. You may now enter any secured area of the site provided to your member status.

Do I have to login again and again, for each secured area?

No. A single login to any secured content area will allow you to access other secured areas (defined by your member type) without requiring you to login again. NOTE: The one exception to this rule is the applications area, which includes registration and fee submissions for both annual and on-going applications such as Professional Development, Annual Member Fees, etc. You will need to login separately to this area, using the same Member or Student # and password.

As an added security feature you will be automatically logged out of any secure area of the Web site after 15 minutes of browser inactivity.

Do I need to Logout?

For security reasons, you are encouraged to logout after completing your secured session on the CPA Ontario Web site. To do so, simply click on the "logout" button in the top right area of your screen.

How do I login to the Firm/ATO area?

Local Senior Officers (LSOs) of public accounting firms have access to the secured Firm/ATO area. LSOs can set security priviledges for other firm representatives after logging in.  Access requires your Firm/ATO # and a password. LSOs can change their password after logging in.

NOTE: The "Firm/ATO #" number is different than the Member's #.
