FCA Elections

The Institute’s Council recently elected 69 new Fellows. Fellowship is the highest designation that the Institute confers, in recognition of outstanding career achievements and leadership contributions to the community and the profession.

FCA elections are held every two years, and any Institute member may submit a nomination, which culminates in a secret ballot vote by the Council. Rigorous criteria make the FCA designation a special honour. To receive this senior designation, a Chartered Accountant is required to have brought distinction to our profession through significant accomplishments in a number of professionally and socially important ways.

The FCA election process is as follows:
• the candidate must be nominated by his or her peers, who provide a detailed description of the member’s achievements in each of the areas of: career positions attained, participation in career-related bodies and career communications, community volunteer leadership contributions, and CA profession service;
• a special committee of six former Council members, who are themselves FCAs, reviews the contributions and achievements of each nominee relative to a documented evaluation approach based on a high and uniform standard;
• the FCA Review Committee's recommendations are reported to the Council; and
• the members of the Institute’s Council vote by secret ballot, with election to Fellowship requiring a two-thirds majority.

Less than 2.8 per cent of Ontario’s over 35,000 Chartered Accountants have been elected to Fellowship, making this an exceptional honour.

The new FCAs will be honoured at a presentation ceremony and dinner on October 13, 2011 in Toronto. Details for purchase of tickets will be distributed in August.
