Ontario CAs figure highly in 2004 Report on Business Top 1000 companies

Listed are the 1,000 largest publicly traded Canadian corporations; Ontario CAs senior management in 7 of top 10 companies

Toronto, August 5, 2004 – The current July-August 2004 issue of the Globe and Mail’s Report on  Business – the magazine’s 20th anniversary issue – lists the top 1000 Canadian companies by  profit in 2003.

Seven of the top 10 companies of the top 1000 list, have an Ontario CA and member of the Institute  of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, as a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the company and  member of the senior management team.

It can also be noted in the current compilation that nationally more than 50% of the top 1000  Canadian companies have a CFO who holds the CA designation.

“The strong representation of the Institute’s membership among the very top echelons of the ROB  Top 1000 reflects the business community’s high regard for the professionalism and business  acumen of CAs,” said Brian Hunt, FCA, president and CEO of the Institute of Chartered  Accountants of Ontario. “The CA designation is a constant standard, backed by ongoing education  and professional development, ensuring every Chartered Accountant and member of the Institute  working in the province possess the same stringent qualities of professional excellence.”

The fact that CAs are more in demand than ever in all sectors of the economy is a vote of trust and  confidence the Institute will do its utmost to maintain over the next 125 years. The Report on  Business survey findings lend credence to the Institute’s 125th anniversary tagline,  “Uncomplicating business since 1879”.
