Newest Chartered Accountants convocate on Feb. 26

Toronto CA Student Places First in Canada

Toronto, February 24, 2005 – More than 800 newly graduated Chartered Accountants are gathering at the Westin Harbour Castle on Saturday, February 26 to celebrate passing the Uniform Evaluation (UFE), one of the world’s most challenging professional entry examinations. Key note speaker Dennis Kavelman, Chief Financial Of.cer at Waterloo’s Research in Motion, will be on hand to tell the graduates that the excitement and challenges of their new career path have just begun and the best is yet to come.

The UFE, written in September, is a national three-day evaluation that assesses competencies including essential knowledge, professional judgment, ethics and the ability to communicate. The UFE is an important component of a professional program, which includes prescribed education, experience and examination requirements. Only those who complete this entire program successfully are entitled to use the prestigious designation of Chartered Accountant.

WHO: Keynote speaker: Dennis Kavelman, Chief Financial Of.cer, Research in Motion Limited; Graduating CA students their families; prominent Chartered Accountants; and the Honourable Michael J. Bryant, Attorney General, Minister Responsible for Native Affairs, and Minister Responsible for Democratic Renewal

WHERE: Westin Harbour Castle, 1 Harbour Square

A total of 16 Ontario graduates, 12 from Toronto, earned places on the Canada-wide Uniform Evaluation’s prestigious National Honour Roll. The National Honour Roll lists the top students in the country who have successfully written the UFE. Of the total 1,907 UFE successful candidates in Canada, 801 were from Ontario, including 404 men and 397 women from communities across the province.

In 1994, the keynote speaker Dennis Kavelman was an Ontario Gold Medallist. At the top of the class in 2004 is Baoqin Guo, who earned the esteemed Governor General’s Gold Medal for Highest Standing in Canada, in addition to winning the regional Gold Medal for Ontario. She is a resident of Toronto, articles with KPMG LLP in Toronto and has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Queen’s University.
