CAs holding free tax clinics for low-income peopleToronto, Ontario (March 6, 2006) - The Institute of Chartered Accountants is holding a Free CA Tax Clinic for low-income Ontarians on Wednesday, March 8 at the Institute's office at Yonge and Bloor streets in Toronto. Volunteer Chartered Accountants will be on hand to help people who have made appointments to have their taxes done free of charge. Started in Toronto in 1969, Free CA Tax Clinics are now held across Ontario from mid-February until the end of March. Designed to serve low-income people who need help preparing tax returns, the Free CA Tax Clinics help these people receive much-needed tax credits and refunds. To qualify for this free tax return assistance, total household income must be below $22,500 with dependents or below $15,000 without dependents. Appointments are available at 416-962-1841 ext. 0. These Free CA Tax Clinics operate in co-operation with a variety of agencies - including food banks, charities, hospitals, senior centres and homes, community centres, social service agencies and libraries. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario offers additional support to these agencies by providing them with a donation based on the number of tax returns prepared. This helps the agencies carry out their valuable work.
