Hamilton high school student wins $2,000 scholarshipThe Duane Soares OUF Scholarship awarded to student attending university in 2007Toronto, Ontario (October 23, 2006) - Erin In, a Grade 12 student attending Hamilton's Westdale Secondary School, has won the inaugural Duane Soares OUF Scholarship. Erin was selected by a draw after she submitted an application at one of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario's CA career presentations at Ontario Universities Fair (OUF). The fair allows students to meet representatives from all 20 Ontario universities plus prominent professional organizations such as the Institute. The $2,000 Duane Soares OUF Scholarship will go towards Ms. In's tuition for the fall of 2007, as long as she applies to and is accepted by an Ontario University as a full-time undergraduate student. "The scholarship honours Duane Soares, an Institute employee who was dedicated to helping young people and promoting the Chartered Accounting profession," said Jon French, Senior Liaison Officer, Learning Stream at the Institute. "When Duane passed away unexpectedly at a young age in 2006, the Institute and the OUF Organizing Committee decided to offer a scholarship in his memory that would encourage young people to follow their dreams and pursue post-secondary education." Ms. In's name was drawn from more than 500 entries submitted during the three-day event held in Toronto from September 29 to October 1.
