Newest Chartered Accountants convocate on Feb. 24Grads from across Ontario gather in TorontoToronto (February 22, 2007) - More than 850 soon-to-be Chartered Accountants are gathering at Toronto's Westin Harbour Castle on Saturday, February 24 to celebrate passing the Uniform Evaluation (UFE), one of the world's most challenging professional entry examinations. The UFE, written in September, is a national three-day evaluation that assesses whether candidates have acquired an appropriate degree of professional competency, including both a significant body of knowledge along with the skills and aptitudes to analyze, synthesize and apply that knowledge effectively. The UFE is an important component of the CA professional qualification program, which includes prescribed education, experience and examination requirements. Only those who complete this entire program successfully are entitled to use the prestigious designation of Chartered Accountant. WHAT: Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario Annual Convocation Ceremony A total of 10 of 60 CA students who earned places on the Canada-wide Uniform Evaluation's prestigious Honour Roll were Ontario graduates, five women and five men. The National Honour Roll lists the top students in the country who have successfully written the UFE. Of the total 2,136 successful UFE candidates in Canada, 884 were from communities across the province. At the top of the class in 2007 is Jennifer Hayton, who earned the esteemed Governor General's Gold Medal as the top UFE writer in Canada. Ms. Hayton articles with KPMG LLP in Waterloo and has a Bachelor in Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University. "I was very surprised to make the Honour Roll, never mind being the Canadian Gold Medallist, because there is such a high caliber of candidates," she said. "It is overwhelming. "I have a three-year-old daughter and many people kept telling me they couldn't imagine becoming a CA and having a family at the same time. I think it actually helped me. It's no secret that most CA students are 'type A' personalities and I'm no exception. We have high standards and put a lot of pressure on ourselves. However, having a family helps me understand what is really important." About the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario: For more information please contact:
