Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario elects 2007-2008 governing Council

Three new members join; Council membership includes strong regional representation


Toronto (June 21, 2007) –
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario announced the election of its 2007-2008 governing Council at its Annual General Meeting on June 20. Eight members were either elected or re-elected to the Council, including three new members from the Greater Toronto Area.

The 2007 – 2008 Executive Group members are:

  • Chair – Keith Farlinger
  • Vice Chair – Gerald Mills
  • Council Finance Committee Chair – Gregory Gallant
  • Council Bylaws Review Committee Chair – Bonnie Foster
  • Council Membership Committee Chair – John Friday
  • Executive Member-at-Large – Robert Scullion
  • Public Representative - D’Arcy Delamere

 

The three newly elected members of the Institute’s 16-member governing Council for a two-year term are:

  • Mary Lou Maher, CA, Chief Financial Officer, KPMG LLP, Toronto
  • Isabel Meharry, CA, President & CEO, Financial Executives International Canada, Toronto
  • Gino Scapillati, CA, Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Toronto

Members re-elected to the Institute’s Council for a two-year term commencing 2006-2007 are:

  • James Barnett, FCA, Director, School of Accountancy, University of Waterloo
  • Keith Farlinger, FCA, Toronto Region Managing Partner, BDO Dunwoody LLP
  • Bonnie Foster, FCA, Partner, Ross Pope & Company, Timmins
  • Gerald Mills, FCA, Senior Partner, Collins Barrow KMD LLP, London
  • Linda Thibeault CA, Senior Audit Manager, Kendall Sinclair Finch Pigden Cowper & Thibeault LLP, North Bay

The other elected members of Council, whose two-year terms continue until the end of the 2007-2008 year, are:

  • Marrianne Bridge, CA, Manager, Compliance, Capital Markets of the Ontario Securities Commission, Toronto
  • Julie Bertoia, CA, Head of Accounting Policy, Head Office Centric, RBC Financial Group, Toronto
  • Garry Foster, FCA, Partner, Deloitte & Touche LLP, Toronto
  • John Friday, FCA, Director, Management Services, Children's Centre Thunder BayGregory Gallant, CA, Partner, Grant Thornton LLP, Toronto Richard Johnston, FCA, Partner, Johnston Beaudette, Cornwall
  • Bruce McConomy, CA, Associate Professor, Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo
  • Robert Scullion, Partner, Ernst & Young LLP, Toronto

The Ontario government also appoints four public representative positions to the Council. They are D’Arcy Delamere, Tim Kennish, Dina Palozzi and Dr. James Young.

The Council boasts a cross-section of business and community leaders from communities across Ontario, including Cornwall, Hamilton, London, Mississauga, North Bay, Oakville, Thunder Bay, Timmins, Toronto and Waterloo.
