The Controllership Program - Mgmt Competencies

The Controllership Program is the definitive program for aspiring or new Controllers, and for experienced Controllers who wish to refresh their base skills and knowledge.

The program is two parts - combining the core technical and operational skills: Operational Skills, along with the people and project management skills and Management Competencies, that provide the foundation for success for Controllers.

Upon completion of both elements participants will receive the Institute’s Controllership Program Certificate of Completion.  There is no particular order in which the two programs must be completed as both programs focus on separate and distinct skills.

Management Competencies

Program Description

Organizations with skillful leadership consistently outperform those with less effective management. As a result, controllers and other senior level accounting professionals are increasingly called upon to demonstrate their ability to lead people and the processes that are intimately tied to human resources management. Many see this as a challenge due to the lack of formal training and education in this area. Those who manage to muddle through are often unsure of decisions made or at the least, are hungry for affirmation that they are on the right track.

In this Management Competencies component of the Controllership Program, you will learn to improve your coaching and supervisory, team building and presentation skills. In addition, you will have the opportunity to devote some time to the enhancement of your individual development. The program emphasizes practical approaches and the sharing of best practices in a setting which is stimulating, supportive and fun.

You will be encouraged to leave with established priorities and plans for what you want to change in the period ahead and the skills to accomplish it.  Your organization will benefit from your ability to build high-performance work teams, and from your implementation of business process improvements.
