Controllership – Management Competencies
The Controllership Program - Mgmt CompetenciesThe Controllership Program is the definitive program for aspiring or new Controllers, and for experienced Controllers who wish to refresh their base skills and knowledge. The Controllership Program is comprised of two parts: Operational Skills and Management Competencies. The Operational Skills program focuses on the technical aspects; and Management Competencies program focuses on people skills and leadership. Upon completion of both Operational Skills and Management Competencies participants will receive the Institute’s Controllership Program Certificate of Completion. Program Description (+) Organizations with skilful leadership consistently outperform those with less effective management. As a result, controllers and other senior level accounting professionals are increasingly called upon to demonstrate their ability to lead people and understand the processes that are intimately tied to human resources management. This program is designed to help controllers with today’s greater emphasis on people management, and will help you: improve your coaching and supervisory skills, develop your team-building and networking skills, hone your presentation skills, and enhance your personal development. Who Should Attend (+) Are you responsible for leading people? Are you expected to incorporate human resource skills into your role? Financial professionals who want to develop and improve their management and leadership contributions will benefit from this program.

Program fees include the program itself, materials, meals and accommodations*. An early-bird discount of $200 is available for registering 60 days in advance of the program start. *Please note: A limited number of program spots are available to those who do not wish to have accommodations. As there may be evening activities (group work and/or networking opportunities), this option is recommended only for those who reside nearby. Facilities (+) The Controllership Program – Management Competencies will be held at the White Oaks Conference Resort & Spa, a premium, four diamond, five-star resort that has achieved a reputation for outstanding comfort, service and atmosphere to ensure a memorable learning and retreat experience for all executives who attend. Program fees include meals, accommodations*, wi-fi access, use of basic fitness facilities, and a hospitality room for evening networking opportunities. *Excluding registrants who have selected the non-accommodation option. Getting There: From Pearson or Buffalo airports: The Niagara Airbus offers Shuttle Transfers to and from Toronto’s Pearson and Buffalo Niagara’s International Airports and can drop you off right at the facility front doors. If you book on-line you can get a 10% discount for Airport transfers. The Niagara Airbus website is www.niagaraairbus.com. Another option is the Falls Livery & Taxi. CPD Information (+) Subject to Institute regulations, members may count up to 30 hours of verifiable CPD for the completion of this portion of The Controllership Program. Faculty (+) Carolyn Cohen, CA, CPA, is a training and human resources consultant. In addition to her CA designations, she also possesses a designation in Human Resources and an advanced degree in social work. She has designed and delivered many workshops on topics ranging from staff retention to recruitment and selection to management development. She offers consulting services to a variety of organizations in the areas of employee performance, leadership and discipline and is the technical editor for the People Management column in CA Magazine. Cindy Pinkus, LL.B. has carried on her law practice for more than 20 years. In the late 1990s, Cindy served as a faculty member and then faculty lead for the Law Society of Upper Canada. In 2002, she served as Director of Bar Admission. Since returning to private practice, Cindy has lectured with the University of Toronto and York University, as well as provided extensive communication and negotiation training across Canada. Her current law practice has an emphasis on estate planning.
