The Institute Serving the Public CAs CA Firms / CATOs CA Students / Education Become a CA

Critical Mass Support

The Institute continues to believe that a fundamental need of Ontario university accounting education is the building of critical mass within the Ontario university system to promote the attraction of leading faculty and excellent students. Projects that significantly contribute to the development of critical mass in accounting education within the Ontario university system are considered for university support.

Preferential consideration is given to project proposals that promote interaction and co-operation among universities, projects that aim to increase the use of technology in accounting education delivery and projects that increase student access to accounting education. The emphasis is on funding projects that develop programs and faculty, not buildings and equipment.

Projects that demonstrate a fair approach to accounting education resourcing and tuition fees, relative to other professional and non-professional programs are favoured. In addition, recognition of the aggregate contribution received from the CA profession, in addition to recognition of the specific contributions received directly from CA firms, individual CAs and the Institute, is required for Institute support of a project proposal.

Proposals, both individual proposals from one university and joint proposals from two or more universities, will be welcomed at any time for this long-term program. It is not unusual for a proposal that is considered to have potential for support to be returned to the submitting university(ies) for revision and resubmission. In such cases, the Institute will work closely with the university(ies) to shape a project that will mutually benefit the university(ies), the CA profession, and the Ontario business community.

Before preparing a proposal contact Brian Leader, FCA, Vice-President of Learning, by mail, fax or e-mail to obtain more information on the program.

Proposals will be reviewed in consultation with CAs and academics identified by the Institute as having independence and expertise in respect of them. Final approval rests with the Institutes governing council.
