The Institute Serving the Public CAs CA Firms / CATOs CA Students / Education Become a CA

Joint CA/University Centre

The joint centre establishes clear responsibility and accountability for the use funds and provides a focal point for media coverage and the promotion of the partnership, in general.  In broad terms, the mission of the joint centre is continuous improvement and the pursuit of excellence in its area of focus.

In consultation with the ICAO, the university:

  • chooses the area of focus for the joint centre consistent with the strengths of the university and its faculty, and in broad terms, the UFE Candidates’ Competency Map; and
  • appoints the director of the joint centre.

The director then establishes an advisory board that is generally comprised of at least one faculty member who is CA and/or the area coordinator; two non-academic CAs, one from public practice and one from outside public practice; and one ICAO representative.  The advisory board provides oversight and counsel to the director in setting policy and in selecting which proposals for research/curriculum change, etc. to support.

Joint Centres agree to share research results and related improvements in CA education with other interested Ontario university accounting/business faculty.  The ICAO Centre for the Advancement of Accounting Education will assist in this regard, as needed, by holding symposia/work shops at the Institute from time-to-time.
