Children's Charities

Started in 1996, the Institute's annual CA Golf Day for Children's Charities supports several province-wide children's charities. In 2010, $35,000 was raised for five such charities: Reach for the Rainbow, Boys and Girls Clubs of Ontario, Easter Seal Society, Child Find Ontario and Kids Help Phone.

Reach for the Rainbow (RFTR) develops integrated year-round, after-school and summer camp opportunities (residential & day) designed to enrich the lives of children and young adults with physical and/or developmental disabilities, their families, and the communities in which they belong. RFTR achieves its mandate of integration and healthy respite through its partnerships with 59 summer camps and recreational community programs across Ontario. In turn, families enjoy much-needed respite, knowing that their child is growing and learning in a prepared setting, with enriched 1:1 support, allowing siblings and friends to attend the same camp or recreational activities together.

The Institute is a major supporter of the

Boys and Girls Clubs of Ontario , and, since 1996, the title sponsor of its annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony. At this event, deserving but disadvantaged young people from across the province receive post-secondary education scholarships. In 2009, the Institute contributed a total of $30,000 for the Scholarship Awards Ceremony, three scholarships to young community leaders, and operation of the Ontario office of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ontario.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Ontario offer children and youth opportunities to develop the skills, knowledge and values they need to become fulfilled individuals in a safe, supervised environment. The Boys and Girls Clubs have been offering services in Canada since 1900. In Ontario, today, there are 24 Clubs with 75,000 members, serving over 100 communities.

The

Easter Seal Society  is dedicated to helping children, youth and young adults with physical disabilities achieve their full individual potential and future independence. Easter Seals funds disability solutions through financial assistance, summer camp, the Recreational Choices funding program, research, advocacy, and public and consumer education.

Chartered Accountants have a long history of supporting this important organization. One of the Rotarian founders of the Ontario Society for Crippled Children, as the Easter Seal Society was originally known, was Arthur Fitzgerald, a Windsor CA, who also served as its first President.

Horizons for Youth has been providing shelter to homeless youth since 1994. Located in the west-end of Toronto, the shelter serves homeless young people who are drawn to Toronto from all across Ontario. Horizons for Youth offers shelter and services for homeless young males and females, aged 16 to 24, in a safe, supportive environment and assists them in taking responsibility for their lives, making positive choices about their future and establishing themselves in the community. In conjunction with community partners, Horizons for Youth seeks to identify ways to address the causes and effects of homelessness.

Child Find Ontario is a volunteer-based, registered charitable organization dedicated to assisting in the search for and recovery of missing and abducted children, and to educating parents and children about child safety in an effort to minimize the risk of abduction. Incorporated in June 1984, Child Find Ontario now has more than 1,000 volunteers in over 20 chapters located throughout the province.

In 1989, Kids Help Foundation launched

Kids Help Phone which provides counselling services directly to children and youth between the ages of four and 19. Through a toll-free telephone number (1-800-668-6868), Kids Help Phone offers children and youth anonymous, confidential counselling, information and referral services, in English and French, 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The service is staffed by professional counsellors and provides a safe, non-threatening way for children to get help.
